Much of the reporting on Ukraine focuses on the horror of what’s happening, but at times one can also catch a glimmer of hope, a feeling of excited optimism that things might just turn out for the better. There’s the view, for instance, that after years of democratic backsliding, this might be the moment that turns the tide on autocracy and once again raises the flag of liberal democratic values.
Hi Seth, thanks for this hopeful essay and for your clarity of thought regarding this world wide crises from a larger perspective. . Is Winter on Fire the same as Ukraine on Fire?
Hey Robin - great to hear from you. No, they're two different documentaries. "Winter on Fire" is only about the Maidan Uprising and is pretty hard to watch, though it's also amazing. I've only just started "Ukraine on Fire," and it seems like it's looking at the situation in Ukraine more broadly.
Thanks for responding, Ardith. The documentary was recently re-released on Netflix. It's definitely hard to watch at times - the violence is so intense and cruel, but their resilience is also incredibly beautiful to behold. So, all in all, well worth watching if you can stomach it.

Strong text - thank you for this Seth!
Thanks, Sampsa - I appreciate you saying so. I imagine things must be intense in Finland right now. Hope all's well.
