Who should own the resources we all depend on — the land, factories, and machines — was a question that was once at the heart of the debate between capitalism and communism. We know their basic arguments — communists put all their faith in the state, and capitalists want private individuals to run everything — but are those really our only two options? No. Both are partially right, and both are terribly flawed. The healthy solution isn’t impossible to see, it just requires us taking up this question anew and being willing to think a little more dynamically about it.
